Discover the flavours of the world in the City of Logan

There is so much to delight foodies in the City of Logan that we can’t even stop for a tantalising introduction. Get ready, buckle up, let’s go.

Markets first. With more than 217 cultures in this buzzing city, it’s not surprising that the City of Logan’s food markets are filled with flavours from around the globe. The aptly named Global Food Market is one of Logan’s most iconic must-do destinations, with rows of authentic street food vendors serving up mouth-watering dishes from South-East Asia, India, Africa, the Pacific Islands and the Middle East, every Sunday. Insider’s tip: do your fruit shopping here and pick up some exotic fresh seasonal produce.

The local team from UP Markets are now running Kingston Butter Factory Farmers Market the first Saturday of every month. As well as the impressive wares by talented craftspeople and creators, you’ll find a tempting array of tasty morsels as well. Traditional Bratwurst or Cheese Kransky? Turkish gozleme or Dutch poffertjes? Maybe start with the freshly ground coffee from Cafe Cartel and browse a little first…

Also on a Saturday are the Jimboomba Country Markets (although, happily, not the same Saturday). Jimboomba is the gateway to the beautiful South East Queensland hinterland and the markets are held on the 3rd Saturday of the month from 7am to midday. Follow the aroma of fried onion and sizzling sausages and you’ll find the BBQ Shed—an essential stop before adventure.

In line with the country theme, we’ll sneak Chambers Flat Strawberry Farm in here. Great for kids (big and small), who enjoy the simple fun of picking the plumpest strawberries you can find and filling a punnet to take home. The farm is open seven days a week (from June to November), and the farm shop also sells strawberries by the box, homemade strawberry ice-cream, chocolate dipped strawberries, strawberry jams, farm fresh eggs and espresso.

One to note in the calendar for their reopening in Autumn are the Beenleigh Night Markets. Located at the Town Square in the heart of Beenleigh, the markets are due to be held on the first and third Friday of the month, from 5pm to 9pm. Watch this space—and look forward to getting your weekend started with some tasty gourmet street food and a stroll under the stars.

Another evening with good food and a great atmosphere is Trucks and Tunes at the Distillery Road Markets. Wander amongst food trucks serving up delicious fare, as you enjoy the music by local artists. Distillery Road is also where you’ll find the Bazaar Market, 4-9pm on the first and third Thursday of each month. These markets are indoor markets true bazaar-vibe, a melting pot of local artisans, makers, fresh produce growers and creators. The thriving hub of Distillery Road includes Kiwanda Café, Zarraffa’s Coffee HQ and roastery, Sugar Creek Smokehouse and Posadas Taqueria.  

If you like the delicious variety of markets and were wondering if you could find the same thing along a single gourmet strip—look no further than Kingston Road in Slacks Creek. This mouth-watering mile offers some of the tastiest global cuisine in Logan. Think Lebanese, Indian, Middle Eastern, Afghani, Pacific Island flavours… and that’s not the half of it. There’s even a NZ Bakehouse. ‘What’s a NZ Bakehouse?’ you say? Better get to Kingston Road.

Now sampling is one thing… what about creating? Rashmi Jaggi’s Spice Route Cooking School will have hitting that next level of cooking genius in no time—whatever that is for you! Rashmi grew up in India, observing and learning traditional Indian cooking skills from her mother and grandmother. Today, through her cooking school in Cornubia, she offers unique blend of Indian, South-East Asian and Fusion cooking classes for all abilities. Forget about any kind of performance anxiety here—Rashmi and her team break down all the cookery myths and jargon so that after your chosen course, you can conjure up something delectable at home.

All this talk of food making you thirsty? Luckily, Logan has thriving craft breweries and distilleries as well.

Loose Moose Brewing is one of Logan’s best kept secrets, found within the industrial park in Browns Plains. The family-owned micro-brewery offers up more than 200 varieties of beer and cider, and all are naturally brewed without preservatives. Try the Spring Moose: a golden-coloured, medium-bodied high hop flavour pale ale. Mm-mmm.

Another neighbourhood brewery making a big name for itself with its cheeky personality and excellent handcrafted, locally brewed craft beer is Monkey Tree Brewing Company. Brewed on the premises at Underwood, its beers are as fresh as you are going to get.

And finally, the big daddy of them all – Beenleigh Artisan Distillery on the banks of the Albert River. A legend in these parts, Beenleigh Artisan Distillery is Australia’s oldest operating distillery. Drop in and discover the rich history and smooth flavours of this Logan icon, still crafting small-batch rum the traditional way after 136 years.
